Hazardous Conditions Warning
As you may know, Hurricane Sandy is currently on a trajectory to make landfall in the Northeastern US between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon. While we don’t anticipate any storm related threats until Sunday evening or the early hours of Monday, Xtel is making all necessary preparations for the potential impact caused by Hurricane Sandy.
This hurricane has reached Category 1 status with sustained winds in excess of 75 miles per hour and is expected to make landfall in the northeast region of the country (Between Washington DC and Massachusetts depending on the final trajectory) with potential of storm surges of up to 12 feet in areas, combined with potential flooding due to heavy rainfall which may exceed 8″ in localized areas.
As the Xtel network is comprised of a combination of aerial and buried cable throughout the tri-state region, the greatest threats to the Xtel network are fiber cuts, Verizon network outages, and potential widespread power outages along the northeast coast. All of the Xtel network locations in the region have either generator backup or AC power redundancy, and DC battery backup to ensure ongoing operations in the event of commercial power failures.

At this point, we do not anticipate service impact related to this storm though we will continue to monitor the situation closely and maintain our preparations with heightened awareness of our network facilities in the vicinity of the storm path.
